Make a Magic Wand in time for Halloween from locally harvested wood with Huw from Ynys Twca in the beautiful setting at Ffarm Moelyci, where you can also meet the resident herd of donkeys.
Course Date: Monday 30th October 10 - 12 noon
This 2 hour session is aimed at children aged between 8-16 years. It is a great way to spend time outdoors in nature learning new skills and making new friends. Huw is a qualified, bilingual teacher who has been running sessions in outdoor classrooms for many years. He believes one of the best ways to learn is by doing and having fun. Making a Magic Wand in the woods covers both of those things! Although the emphasis is on learning new skills and kids enjoying themselves, safety is always a high priority.
What they will do:
Make a Magic Wand!
Learn how to safely use a knife and other traditional tools for crafts.
Hear stories from the woods.
Learn to measure, saw, cut and sand wood.
Have an age appropriate understanding of knife laws and appropriate use and handling of knives.
Have a fun session in the woods learning new skills and making new friends.
The wooded area where the course will be based is adjacent to Snowdonia Donkeys, a charity which works to help change the lives of both people and donkeys. So it is highly likely that the soundtrack to the session will not only be birds singing but donkeys braying! The sanctuary will be closed to the public on this day but for those on the course, the donkeys will be nearby and you will get a chance to say hello.
The course is limited to 6 attendees to ensure everyone gets the most from the session. Although the course is aimed at ages between 8 and 16 years, adults can book on too if they wish to join their children on the course. Non paying parents or guardians are asked to stay on the farm during the course and leave a contact number with Huw in case he needs to contact you. During this time you are able to walk around the farm and catch glimpes of some of the donkeys in their fields, visit the farm shop and cafe.
Please note: a minimum of 4 bookings is required in order for the session to go ahead. If the minimum number is not reached, the session will be rescheduled to a later date.

- This course is held outside in a small area of woodland. The ground is uneven in places with grass and tree stumps within the working area. Small stools are provided as seating and a tarp can be positioned to provide shelter from sun, wind or rain. If you are unsure if this is suitable for your children, please do get in touch before booking so we can discuss any additional requirements they may have.
- Please ensure children are wearing sturdy footwear, no open toed sandals.
- Be prepared for the weather to change. Think warm clothes, waterproofs and a sun hat!
- There is an eco toilet next to the Farm shop which participants are able to use under the supervision of their parent or guardian.
- Feel free to bring a packed lunch and drink to enjoy either before, if you are on an afternoon session, or after, for morning sessions.
